Zytec DBA 03S 004

Zytec DBA 03S 004

Caractéristiques

Born as a REYNARD 02S LMP675 in 2002, it was upgraded to LMP1 by Creation Autosportif in 2004 and has been competing extensively in European Le Mans Series, American Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
To set the scene, in the second round of the 2004 ELMS Championship at the Nürburgring, the little blue LMP1 qualified on pole position ahead of three Audi R8s and finished on the podium! This was just the beginning of a long series of 8 pole positions (15 in the top 3!) and 8 podium finishes. The Creation Autosportif LMP1 quickly earned the nickname 'the Blue Rocket'. The car was less fortunate at Le Mans, although it did contest the event three times during its career. However, it did finish second in the LMP675 class in 2003 before being acquired by Creation.

When the new top class was introduced in 2004, the minimum car weight remained unchanged from the previous year at 900kg. However, the ACO wanted to provide competition for the outrageously dominant Audi. In order to attract new teams to LMP1, it was decided that the new Creation car could retain its lightweight status provided that its restrictor was modified.
The same was true for the two sister cars that Zytek built in 2004 after buying the rights to the DBA (REYNARD). Zytek 04S #2  and #3 benefited from the same conditions and helped to create the Zytek legend.
